Employers registered with the Compensation Fund must take note of two critical updates under the Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act (COIDA):

  1. ROE submission deadline extended

The Department of Employment and Labour has officially extended the submission period for the 2024 Return of Earnings (ROE). This applies to the 2024 assessment year (1 March 2024 to 28 February 2025). Employers now have until 31 May 2025 to submit their ROEs. Missing the deadline could result in penalties and delays in receiving a Letter of Good Standing, which may jeopardise your ability to bid for contracts or operate compliantly.

  1. Employers must confirm registration details

A new notice issued in March 2025 requires all employers registered with the Compensation Fund to confirm or update their registration details. This is part of the Department’s push for a clean and updated employer database, improving communication and service delivery. The Department will be issuing Employer Confirmation Forms—and non-response may impact your future COIDA submissions or status.

What employers should do now

  • Submit your 2024 ROE before the new deadline of 31 May 2025

Ensure that payroll data for the assessment period is accurate, up-to-date, and submitted via the online ROE portal. If assistance is needed, speak to your organiser.

  • Look out for and respond to the employer confirmation form

Update company details, contact persons, and any changes in operations. This step is critical for remaining in good standing with the Compensation Fund.

  • Maintain your letter of good standing

Delays in ROE submission or outdated registration data can prevent the issuance of a Letter of Good Standing—essential for tenders, state work, and compliance verification.

Heads-Up: Many employers overlook these COIDA compliance steps until it’s too late. Don’t risk penalties, interest, or the inability to operate legally.
