(SA)UEO-sponsored professional body for labour relations practitioners takes shape
We are pleased to share that the Labour Leadership and Labour Relation Association (LLLRA) — of which (SA)UEO is the founding sponsor — has officially been recognised as a Professional Body and is now moving forward with its SAQA accreditation application.
Once accredited, LLLRA will be South Africa’s first-ever designated professional body for Labour Relations Practitioners — and (SA)UEO organisers will be among the first in the country to hold an official professional designation in this field.
Why This Matters
This milestone:
- Raises the professional bar for organisers, strengthening trust in the role of LRPs
- Helps ensure greater consistency, ethics, and capability across workplace representation
- Enables (SA)UEO business members to work with LRPs who meet rigorous professional criteria
- Signals a formal career path for young practitioners entering the labour relations space
Governance Structure Now in Place
To meet SAQA requirements, LLLRA has now established the following key governance committees:
- Board of Directors – Strategic oversight
- Professional Designations Committee – Defining and refining professional titles
- Ethics and Conduct Committee – Upholding the Code of Conduct
- Accreditation & CPD Committee – Managing accredited learning and development
- Membership and Admissions Committee – Reviewing member eligibility
- Finance and Audit Committee – Ensuring sound financial governance
These structures were finalised in June, and additional appointments are currently under way. Although (SA)UEO members form the core of the startup cohort, the intention is for LLLRA to grow into an independent and nationally representative body in time.
A New Era for Workplace Representation
We are deeply proud to be pioneering this professionalisation journey — and equally proud of our organisers, who have played a pivotal role in shaping the future of the labour relations profession in South Africa.
We will keep members informed as the accreditation process progresses and look forward to celebrating this national first together.
