Why Your Voice Matters Now
Twenty-six years ago, (SA)UEO was built on relationships.
It started with listening to employers. Understanding their challenges. Standing with them when things became difficult. That has always been our purpose — to be a voice for business.
Today, the environment is becoming more demanding. In the first months of 2026 alone, employers have had to adjust to:
- A new National Minimum Wage, requiring immediate payroll adjustments and careful cashflow planning.
- Changes to COIDA requirements, placing greater emphasis on documentation, reporting and employer liability.
- Expanded obligations affecting those who employ domestic workers, bringing households fully within the regulatory framework.
- Ongoing Employment Equity compliance expectations, which require disciplined planning and accurate reporting.
Each of these developments carries real operational implications. They affect budgets, administration time, hiring decisions and risk exposure. This is not theoretical. It is practical.
When these pressures accumulate, they shape how businesses operate and how confident they feel about growth and employment. But too often, these realities are not fully reflected in policy discussions.
If we want to influence outcomes, we must speak with evidence — not frustration. For this reason, we have adapted and relaunched the (SA)UEO State of Business Survey.
This Survey is not an audit. We do not ask for turnover figures or identifying financial information. All responses are anonymous.
We are eliciting participation far and wide across sectors and regions to ensure that the consolidated findings form a credible and representative State of Business Report.
This Report will be used to:
- Strengthen advocacy and lobbying
- Engage with government departments
- Contribute to organised business platforms
- Support collective bargaining discussions
- Raise awareness through appropriate media engagement
And finally, where appropriate, the ideal is also to provide input at parliamentary and NEDLAC level. Our aim is simple: to ensure that the lived realities of businesses are properly represented where decisions are made.
I ask our organisers to share this Survey widely within their business communities — not only with members, but also with employers who are not yet affiliated.

For 26 years, we have stood for business. Now we must organise business experience into evidence that carries weight. Your voice strengthens every employer’s position. Together, we listen. Together, we organise. Together, we represent.
